Waiting until at least one week after a missed period to take an at-home pregnancy test increases the accuracy and reliability of the results. It is at this point that your body has had time to produce enough hCG (the pregnancy hormone) to be detected by a urine pregnancy test. If you take the test too early, the test may yield an erroneously negative reading.
