Your Privacy During an Abortion Consultation: What You Need to Know

Home | Abortion | Your Privacy During an Abortion Consultation: What You Need to Know

If you’re considering abortion, it’s natural to wonder who will know about your appointment and how your personal information will be handled. Questions about privacy, what happens during a consultation, and how your records are protected are completely understandable.

You deserve clear, honest answers—and a place where you feel safe and supported.

At Bella Women’s Center in Warren, every appointment, including abortion consultations, is completely confidential. Anything you share with our medical team stays between you and your care provider.

What Happens During an Abortion Consultation?

An abortion consultation gives you the opportunity to meet privately with a licensed medical professional who can walk with you through what’s happening in your body and what your next steps might be.

At Bella, your consultation may include:

✔ A medical-grade pregnancy test

A positive test alone does not confirm pregnancy. It simply detects hCG, a hormone that can remain in your system even after a recent miscarriage.

That’s why ultrasound is an essential next step.

✔ A limited obstetric ultrasound

Your ultrasound is performed by a licensed and credentialed medical sonographer experienced in early pregnancy imaging.

Ultrasound is the only way to determine:

  • Whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus (to rule out ectopic pregnancy)
  • Whether cardiac activity is present and the pregnancy is developing as expected
  • How far along you may be (gestational age)

✔ A private medical consultation about your health

You’ll meet one-on-one with a nurse or patient advocate who will walk through your results and talk with you about what they mean for your health and your next steps—without pressure or judgment.

✔ STI testing—and treatment if needed

Bella offers limited STI testing for pregnant patients, and if your result is positive, we provide treatment at no cost so you receive complete, compassionate care.

Your Privacy Is Deeply Protected

Many women come to Bella because they want truly confidential care.

Bella does not bill insurance, which means nothing about your visit appears in insurance records or electronic benefit statements. Your appointment stays completely outside those systems.

Even without insurance involvement, Bella still adheres to:

  • HIPAA-compliant privacy practices
  • Strict medical confidentiality standards
  • Written patient consent before any release of information

This means:

  • Your appointment details and test results remain private.
  • No one—partners, parents, employers, or anyone else—will be contacted.
  • Your health information is secure from the moment you walk through our doors.

Your dignity and privacy are our priority.
