Early Signs of Pregnancy

During the early stages of pregnancy, our bodies begin to change. As every woman experiences pregnancy a little differently, there is no cookie-cutter way to interpret the often subtle changes. But on a whole, women generally encounter a combination of the following early pregnancy symptoms to some varying degree.

Here’s what to be on the lookout for:

  • A missed period
  • Frequent urination
  • Backaches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Cramping
  • Food aversions or cravings
  • Tender or swollen breasts

If you notice any of these symptoms, you may be pregnant. For free pregnancy testing, you can call to schedule an appointment at our center today!

When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?

Think you may be pregnant? Here’s what you need to know before rushing to the store to buy that pregnancy test. Waiting until at least one week after a missed period increases the accuracy and reliability of the results. It is at this point that your body has had time to produce enough hCG (the pregnancy hormone) to be detected by a urine pregnancy test. If you take the test too early, the test may yield an erroneously negative reading.

After a Positive Pregnancy Test

After confirming your positive pregnancy test with lab-quality pregnancy testing at our center, the next step is an ultrasound to confirm whether the pregnancy is viable.

Determine If You Had A Miscarriage

With up to one-third of all pregnancies ending in a natural miscarriage, ultrasounds prevent women from undergoing unnecessary procedures. Pregnancy complications like miscarriage can be detected during an ultrasound. A miscarriage is a non-viable pregnancy and often occurs before the 12th week of pregnancy.

Signs of a miscarriage could include:

  • Vaginal spotting/bleeding
  • Pain/cramping in your abdomen or lower back
  • Fluid or tissue passing from your vagina

An ultrasound also notes the gestational age of the pregnancy, which aids in determining the options available to you. Call to schedule an appointment for an ultrasound with us today.
