At Bella Women’s Center, we offer free and confidential pregnancy testing and ultrasounds to support you. Here is what you need to know about the costs of abortion and Ohio Medicaid coverage.
Abortion Costs in Ohio
An out-of-pocket abortion costs around $500 in Ohio, and can reach up to around $1,000 or more depending on if you have a medical or surgical abortion.
The cost of an abortion varies based on the type of abortion procedure you choose. That choice is determined by how far along you are – only confirmed through an ultrasound. One Ohio abortion clinic listed the following costs for abortion procedures and ultrasounds:
- The abortion pill (medication abortion) – $650
- In-clinic abortions ranging from $650 to $1400
- Ultrasounds only – $200
Does Ohio Medicaid pay for Abortion?
Most of the time, Ohio Medicaid (government-funded insurance) does not cover abortion costs unless you have private insurance. Ohio Medicaid and other public funding don’t cover the costs for abortions unless in the case of reported rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
In addition, health plans offered in the state’s health exchange under the Affordable Care Act can only cover abortion in cases of life endangerment, or in cases of rape or incest.
